Porro Saul et viri Israhel congregati venerunt in valle Terebinthi et direxerunt aciem ad pugnandum contra Philisthim. (1 Samuel 17:2)
The chart above compares our Latin letters, with the original Hebrew letters.
Most are aware that the English language uses the Latin alphabet, which has evolved out of the Greek alphabet.
What most are not aware of, is that the Greek alphabet evolved out of the Ancient Hebrew Alphabet.
"Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee", see Romans 11:18.
IsraelNationalNews reports that archaeologists have discovered what they say is the oldest Hebrew text ever found, at a site they believe was King David's front line fortress in the war against the people of Pleshet, also known as the Philistines.
The site overlooks the Elah Valley, where the young David slew Goliath, the Philistine giant, with a well-aimed shot from a sling.
Carbon-14 dating as well as chemical analysis of the pottery found at the site shows conclusively that it dates from between 1.000 and 975 B.C. - the time of King David's reign.
The text is written in ink on a pottery shard.
It is made up of five lines of text in Proto-Canaanite characters separated by lines.
The discovery, by archaeologists Prof. Yossi Garfinkel and Saar Ganor of Hebrew University, is being hailed as one of the most important finds in Israel since the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The digs at the spot have been underwritten by the Berman Center Biblical Archeology Hebrew University, the Brennan Foundation and Corner Stone, which is turning the site into an educational attraction, and invites the public to participate in the digs.
The modern word "Hebrew" is derived from the word "Ibriy" which in turn is based upon the root "`abar" meaning "to cross over", which is related to the name Eber, which means "the one who traverses", see Genesis 10:21.
Let us hope we all soon will be intelligent enough to put a cross over all legal disputes, which stupidly deny persons born in the Jewish capital Jerusalem, Israel, to have the word Israel inscribed in their passports.
Let us be inspired by the brave Jewish people, and follow the advice of Romano Prodi, the former President of the European Commission, who announced that, Latin would become the sole official language within the European Parliament and other E.U. institutions, compare with Genesis 27:22, Obadiah 1:6, and Romans 16:20.
"And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people", see Revelation 14:6.
"Et Philisthim stabant super montem ex hac parte, et Israhel stabat super montem ex altera parte; vallisque erat inter eos", 1 Samuel 17:3.
